CHECKERED LILY - MELEAGRIS

  • Late Spring Flowering

  • Great for naturalizing
  • Zone 3

The Checkered Lily, botanically known as Fritillaria Meleagris, is a uniquely-patterned, low-fuss perennial that is sure to attract attention in your garden! Native to Europe, these bell-shaped flowers have a burgundy and white checkerboard pattern donning their petals that can be seen in late spring. These flowers are also hardy, deer-resistant, and heavy spreaders. Plant bulbs in September-December and you can expect blooms to start appearing through April and May, with plants eventually reaching 8 inches tall. Bulbs should be placed 3 inches deep and 3 inches apart in rich soil. Well-draining soil is best, but Checkered Lilies thrive in moist conditions and can tolerate soil with less optimal drainage as well. These flowers can be planted in a variety of areas as long as they receive full to partial sun; containers, flower beds, borders, and lawns are all great choices!
