Gardener's Notes: Start seeds indoors 6 weeks before last spring frost. Sow 1/4 in. deep & 2 inches apart in seed starting mix & keep very warm, 80F (27C). When seedlings have several sets of leaves, transplant into individual containers. When night temps stay above 50F (10C), acclimate seedlings to outdoor conditions before transplanting 18-24 in. apart into fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Mulch well & fertilize monthly. Pick 3-4 in. long at either green or red color stage.
