Iron Cross Begonias have some of the most unique foliage in the plant world. Each bright-green puckered leaf is marked with a reddish-brown iron-cross pattern in the center. Give your begonia bright, indirect light to get the best leaf color. It thrives under fluorescent lights. Avoid getting water on the leaves because they spot easily and are prone to mildew.
Begonia masoniana has rhizomatous roots that store water, so allow the soil to dry out slightly between watering. If your begonia collapses and wilts, don't worry! It's not uncommon for begonias to go dormant in the winter. It does not need to be watered during dormancy. Iron Cross begonias LOVE humidity and it will thrive with lots. In the spring or summer it may even produce some pink flowers for you. It's flowers are nothing impressive, and the plant will actually do better if you prune the flowers off. This showy houseplant can be a bit of a diva, so be sure to keep a close eye on it.
