Pileas are great starter plants for the beginnger gardener! They do best in containers where their roots are somewhat restricted. They can become leggy. To encourage a bushier, compact plant, pinch off the tips of new growth on branching forms. Their lower leaves naturally drop with age. If your plant becomes too leggy, you can always start a new with cuttings as they are easy to propogate.
Keep your pilea out of direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves of your plant. Rotate your plant weekly to encourage even growth. Bronze Pileas can handle lower light environments but their leaves tend to darken and they may become leggier faster. Keep your Pilea away from heaters in the winter time as this may cause them to drop their leaves more frequently.
These uniquely textured plants are great accent pieces to add to your collection. Their size makes them great for terrariums and can be combined with other plants or used as a stand alone display.
