English Rose - bred by David Austin
Shrub Rose
Voted the World's Favourite Rose
An award-winning rose with cupped blooms in an unusually rich shade of yellow. Lovely fresh tea fragrance with hints of violets. Upright, bushy and vigorous growth.
Bears medium-sized, cupped blooms. Their colour is an unusually rich, pure yellow that would be hard to match even among modern roses, and is entirely missing among Old Roses. There is a medium-strong, fresh tea rose fragrance, with a cool violet character typical of its colour group. It has attractive, smooth green foliage. Good repeat-flowering from early summer onwards.
It forms a medium-sized shrub with bushy, upright and vigorous growth. We particularly recommend planting this variety in groups of three or more and pruning to form a single, shapely shrub. Position this rose toward the middle or back of the border. It is perhaps even better trained as a climber.
Named for the British horticulturist who was one of the most influential gardeners of his time. Graham Thomas was a frequent visitor to our nursery and offered encouragement and advice. He chose this rose himself. He gathered a collection of Old Roses, which formed the basis of the National Collection at Mottisfont Abbey in Hampshire.
