Origin: Zanzibar, Kenya, and Eastern Africa
Native to eastern Africa, the ZZ plant belongs to the Araceae family. Also called the Zanzibar gem, the ZZ Plant is quite durable and handles low indirect light well. Great for offices! This plant has wide, shiny, dark green leaves that grow upwards, giving it a layered look. Its new leaves add contrast, as they are much lighter green in colour. ZZ Plants are extremely popular due to their easy-going temperament. They tolerate neglect, drought, and low light which makes them a beginners dream plant. Sometimes, it may even produce small flowers in the mid-summer or early autumn. Much like a blue star fern or a ponytail palm, ZZ plants grow large rhizomes that store water. This is what makes them so drought tolerant. ZZ Plants are toxic and shouldn't be within reach of children and pets.
