Sporobolus heterolepis - Prairie Dropseed

A graceful, fine-textured native grass, Prairie Dropseed forms a rounded mound of arching, threadlike foliage that gently sways with the breeze. In mid to late summer it sends up airy inflorescences of tiny, fragrant seed heads, giving the plant a soft, cloudlike halo above the foliage. Its foliage holds well through fall, often taking on warm golden tones, and in winter the dense tuft provides structure and visual interest in the garden. This low-maintenance, drought-tolerant grass is ideal for prairie gardens, rock gardens, perennial borders, or naturalistic plantings.
