Gardener's Notes: Sow seed in early spring in light, fertile, well-drained soil about 2-4 weeks before the last frost. Plant 1 seed every 2 inches. After seedlings emerge, thin each cluster to the strongest plant. Do not pull; using scissors, cut off excess seedlings a the soil surface. Provide even moisture as beets grow. Harvest roots when 2-3 inches around. In mild climates, grow during winter months.
