The diverse perennial group known as loosestrife (genus Lysimachia and sometimes the water-loving form Lythrum) offers a mix of bold foliage and star-shaped or spiked blooms in yellows, pinks, purples, and whites. Many Lysimachia species thrive in part sun to full sun, in moist to moderately wet soils, making them well suited to Canadian garden sites that hold moisture or edge streams and ponds. However, caution is required: some loosestrife species—especially purple loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria)—are highly invasive in Canadian wetlands and should not be planted. The key is selecting non-invasive cultivars and managing spread with care. Browse our Wildwood Express loosestrife selection to discover controlled, garden-safe varieties that can bring vibrant foliage and flower colour to moist spots.
