Paeonia lactiflora - Primevere

An exquisite early-to-mid-season peony, ‘Primevere’ enchants with anemone-style blooms measuring approximately 6–7 inches across. The guard petals open with a creamy, slightly blushed-white tone, contrasting beautifully with a rich lemon-yellow center that lightens with age—often with a subtle green glow. These moderately fragrant flowers are held on tall (around 36 in/90 cm), graceful stems amidst dark, coarse foliage that forms lush mounds. A prolific and long-loved heritage variety by Lemoine (1907), ‘Primevere’ is celebrated as one of the finest “yellow” peonies. It thrives in Zones 2–8 and is beloved for both its garden presence and its cut-flower elegance.
