Ruby Red Astilbe

Ruby Red Astilbe is a compact and freely flowering herbaceous perennial plant that produces showy plumes of fragrant, fluffy flower spikes in mid-summer. The plumes emerge on slender, upright stems and are in nearly perfect proportion to the mounded, fern-like foliage. The plant is good in pots and tubs and makes a nice colorful landscape accent in moist areas. It grows best in organically rich, evenly moist, acidic, well-drained soil, sited in bright shade or filtered sun. It does not tolerate dry conditions and should be mulched to keep roots cool and moist, avoiding the crown. Spent blooms should be clipped for a tidy appearance and old foliage and stems should be removed in early spring.

  • Versatile perennial flower in a shade garden.
  • Showy flowers with spikes of red.
  • Loves moist soil with good drainage.
