Pennisetum alopecuroides - Hameln
A charming dwarf fountain grass that beautifully combines refined texture with all-season interest. ‘Hameln’ forms compact, symmetrical clumps of fine, arching green foliage reaching approximately 60–90 cm (24–36 in) tall and wide, ideal for borders, containers, and small gardens. In mid‑ to late summer, it produces soft white‑cream bottlebrush plumes that sway gracefully above the foliage, aging to warm tan and persisting into fall and winter for visual structure. Bronze‑gold fall foliage adds seasonal contrast before winter dormancy. Noted for its hardiness in USDA Zones 5–9, 'Hameln' is drought tolerant once established, thrives in full sun to partial shade, and adapts to a variety of soil types—even light clay or sandy soils. It exhibits low-maintenance habits, resists deer browsing, and provides excellent ornamental and dried-cut elements without aggressive self-seeding common to the species.
