Aconitum napellus

Tall, upright spikes of rich violet-blue, helmet-shaped flowers emerge in mid to late summer above deeply divided, glossy dark green foliage, creating a dramatic vertical accent. This classic heirloom perennial thrives in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil and does best in full sun to partial shade; in hot regions, afternoon shade helps prevent stress. Exceptionally deer- and rabbit-resistant and prized as an outstanding cut flower, it also attracts bees and butterflies. All plant parts are extremely toxic—wear gloves and handle with care.
