Gardener's Notes: Beans need warm weather and fertile well-drained soil. Plant directly in the garden in late spring only when nights reach 55F (13C). Form a tripod with 6-8 foot stakes. Sow 4-6 seeds around each stake. Thin to 3 plants each stake. To plant in rows, space seeds every 4 inches and provide supports. Harvest when pods are filled out, but before seeds inside develop. Pick every other day to keep plants productive.
