Gardener's Notes: Plant in rich, well-drained, well-amended soil. Sow either in very early spring for early harvest or in mid summer for fall/winter harvests. For transplants, start indoors no more than four weeks before setting out -- plant outside promptly for best results. Thin seedlings or transplant 18 inches apart. Fertilize monthly. Harvest when heads are well filled out, but before heads begin to yellow or look ricey.
