Epimedium × versicolor ‘Sulphureum’
A versatile and vibrant woodland groundcover, Epimedium × versicolor ‘Sulphureum’ features heart-shaped foliage that emerges bronze-red in spring, matures to green, and returns to red in autumn, providing ornamental interest nearly year-round. In early to mid-spring, clusters of buttery-yellow, short-spurred flowers appear above the foliage on wiry stems, lighting shaded areas with a sunny glow. This rhizomatous perennial grows to about 20–30 cm (8–12″) tall and spreads 30–60 cm (12–24″), rapidly forming dense, semi-evergreen mats ideal for woodland, rock, or border plantings. Exceptionally low-maintenance, it thrives in part to full shade, tolerates drought once established, and is both deer- and rabbit-resistant, making it a gardener’s favorite for shade gardens.
