Iris pseudacorus - Variegata

A striking aquatic or boggy perennial, Iris pseudacorus ‘Variegata’ (variegated yellow flag iris) features pale yellow‑striped foliage in spring that matures to green by mid-summer. In early to mid-summer (May–June), it bursts into bright yellow, pendant iris blooms accented with subtle brown or purple signals at the bases that attract bees and hoverflies. Upright sword-shaped leaves can reach 50–90 cm tall and form dense clumps, making it ideal for pond edges and moist garden sites. This cultivar is hardy in zones 4–9, tolerates standing water and a range of soil types, and is valued for its ornamental foliage and vivid blooms. Be mindful—like the species, ‘Variegata’ can spread aggressively by rhizomes and seed, and is considered invasive in many regions if not contained.
