Onoclea sensibilis - Sensitive Fern
A graceful and vigorous sensitive fern, Onoclea sensibilis forms vase-shaped clumps of deeply pinnatifid, bright green sterile fronds reaching 2–4 ft (60–120 cm). In mid-summer, shorter fertile fronds appear with bead‑like spore capsules, which dry to brown and persist through winter. Thriving in moist, organically rich soils, especially near streams, ponds, or wet woodlands, it spreads steadily via shallow rhizomes. Deer‑ and rabbit‑resistant, with no major pest issues, it makes excellent rain‑garden, woodland, or naturalized groundcover plantings.
