Baptisia alba

Graceful, pea-family perennial with tall, erect spikes of creamy-white flowers that bloom in late spring to early summer on sturdy purple stems. Its attractive blue-green trifoliate foliage forms a neat mound that transitions to charcoal-black seed pods, adding seasonal interest through fall and winter. A long-lived native, it thrives in full sun to part shade with well-drained soil—tolerates drought and poor conditions once established thanks to its deep taproot. With low maintenance, strong deer resistance, and wildlife value (bees, butterflies, host to duskywing caterpillars), it's perfect for meadow borders or cottage-style gardens.
