Dryopteris cristata - The King

A majestic crested male fern, Dryopteris affinis ‘Cristata The King’ showcases rich green, arching fronds crowned with elegant crested tips on each leaflet, creating a ruffled, shuttlecock-shaped mound. Often reaching around 30–36 in (75–90 cm) tall and equally wide, it offers strong architectural interest as a standout specimen in shade gardens or alongside hostas. Semi-evergreen in milder climates, these robust fronds hold their form year-round and add vibrant contrast in filtered light. Exceptionally low-maintenance and deer-resistant, it thrives in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil under part to full shade—ideal for woodland settings or shaded borders.
