Athyrium niponicum - Regal Red

A vibrant Japanese painted fern, Athyrium niponicum ‘Regal Red’ features frosted silver-green fronds with deep red‑burgundy midribs and stems that intensify with age, creating a jewel‑like tapestry of color in shaded gardens. Forming a graceful, triangular mound reaching 12–18 in (30–45 cm) tall and 18–24 in (45–60 cm) wide, it’s ideal for borders, woodland plantings, or containers. Thriving in part to full shade with evenly moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil, it’s low-maintenance, deer- and rabbit-resistant, and tolerant of occasional dry spells once established. Its twisting pinnules add dimension, and fronds persisting well into fall bring lasting structure to shady landscapes
