Echinacea purpurea
A showy centerpiece for any garden with a large, brown, cone-shaped center surrounded by striking purple petals. A native of the American prairie that is drought-resistant with long-lasting blooms. Ht. 2 ½ -3 ft. Zones 3-9.

Gardener's Notes: Plant seeds directly in the garden in late fall for germination the following spring or sow in early spring as soon as the soil can be cultivated. Seeds may be started indoors in 8-10 weeks before transplanting into the garden. Plants grow best in well-drained, fertile soil and thrive under dry conditions but my need watering during extended hot, dry weather. Cover with mulch in late fall. Hardy zones 3-9.
