Athyrium filix‑femina - Lady in Red

A vivacious, upright lady fern, Athyrium filix‑femina ‘Lady in Red’ is known for its deep burgundy-red stems that beautifully set off bright green, arching fronds about 24–36 in (60–90 cm) tall. Its clump-forming habit remains tidy, slowly spreading to 24–36 in (60–90 cm) wide over time, making it ideal for shaded woodland gardens or containers. This deciduous fern thrives in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil in part to full shade, tolerates short periods of dryness, and is low-maintenance once established. Deer- and rabbit-resistant, it offers year-round interest—even when dormant, the structure endures.
