Hosta – Liberty

A standout among variegated hostas, ‘Liberty’ features bold, blue-green, heart-shaped leaves edged with bright yellow margins that gracefully fade to creamy white as the season progresses. Awarded the prestigious Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit, this cultivar forms an upright vase mound reaching approximately 65 cm (26 in) tall and spreading 90–100 cm (36–39 in) wide. Expect tall lavender flower scapes (up to 100 cm / 40 in) in early to mid-summer, which attract hummingbirds and add delicate contrast to its bold foliage. With thick leaf substance, it’s notably slug-resistant and performs well in part shade to full shade, thriving in moist, organically rich, well-drained soils. Deer and rabbits, however, may still find the foliage appealing, so protection may be necessary.
