Lithodora – Grace Ward
A stunning evergreen groundcover, Lithodora Grace Ward dazzles with masses of vibrant, star-shaped, deep blue flowers that blanket its low, spreading mat of dark green, hairy foliage from late spring into summer. It maintains a compact height of about 6 to 12 inches (15–30 cm), while gracefully spreading 2 to 3 feet (60–90 cm) wide—making it ideal for edging, rock gardens, container spilling, or erosion control on slopes. This hardy cultivar thrives in USDA zones 6 to 8 (some sources extend to zone 9) and prefers full sun to partial shade—especially in hotter climates where a bit of afternoon shade is beneficial. It favors acidic, well-drained, sandy or loamy soil, and benefits from mulch and consistent moisture during establishment—though it's somewhat drought tolerant once rooted. Low-maintenance and resilient, Grace Ward is deer-resistant, virtually disease- and pest-free, and can be lightly trimmed after flowering to refresh its foliage and encourage reblooming. Its evergreen habit and showy blooms make it a standout choice for rock gardens, slopes, borders, containers, and butterfly-friendly gardens.
