Sedum - Purple Emperor
Sedum ‘Purple Emperor’ is a striking, award-winning stonecrop notable for its deep purple, succulent foliage and elegant summer blooms. This upright, clump-forming perennial artfully pairs architectural foliage with vibrant floral display. Growing to a compact yet bold stature, it typically reaches 12–18 in (30–45 cm) in height and spreads 12–24 in (30–60 cm) across, forming tidy, mound-like habit. From mid-summer to early fall, it bears flattened clusters of dusky pink or pinkish-purple, star-shaped flowers approximately 5–6 in (12–15 cm) across. An exceptional garden feature, it thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, tolerating drought, poor, dry, or sandy conditions once established. Hardy in Zones 3–9 (some references include up to zone 10b), ‘Purple Emperor’ delivers long-lasting fall interest and winter structure when flower heads are left standing. It’s also an excellent pollinator attractant, drawing bees and butterflies, and demonstrates strong resistance to deer and drought.
