Vernonia – Summer’s Swan Song

A bold yet garden‑friendly ironweed, Vernonia 'Summer's Swan Song' brings a spectacular burst of deep‑purple, nectar‑rich flowers in late summer and early fall — perfect when many other plants are winding down. This cultivar forms a tidy, mound‑shaped clump of fine, olive‑green foliage rising to about 75–90 cm tall, with stems that take on a rich red hue in full sun for added seasonal interest. Its airy, fluffy flower clusters are highly attractive to bees, butterflies and other pollinators, making it an excellent choice for pollinator or native gardens. Thanks to its compact, well‑behaved habit and good disease resistance, it’s a great option for borders, naturalistic plantings, or even modest-size garden spaces.
