Coreopsis lanceolata
Native of Canada
There is some discussion as to whether this plant is native to Ontario or has become naturalized. Regardless the flowers are a favorite of many pollinators as well as butterflies. It is often used for quick colour in native wildflower mixes and for borders in formal beds. It also makes a nice cut flower. Brilliant Yellow flowers 2.5-5cm (1-2") across bloom on erect stems 60cm (2') tall pretty well all summer long. Lance leaved coreopsis also self-seeds very easily and tolerates both heat and drought. Perennial hardy to Zone 4.
How to Grow
One of the best long-flowering perennial wildflowers. Start seed indoors in a soil-less mix in early spring for bloom the same season. Keep at 24C (75F) for the 15-20 day germination period. After that, grow on under lights at a slightly cooler temperature before hardening off and transplanting outside to a sunny spot. Outdoors, direct sow seed from mid May to early June - keep the soil moist during the germination period. Thin seedlings to stand 30cm (12") apart in formal plantings. Divide plants every two to three years. Blooms June through fall. Seed can also be directly sown outdoors in the fall and early spring.
Perennial.
Approx. 70 seeds/pkt.
