Gardener's Notes: Cilantro grows quickly and doesn't transplant well, so plant directly in the garden in well-drained fertile soil in full sun. Sow 1-2 inches apart and cover 1/2 inch deep, firming soil carefully over seeds. Thin young seedlings to 3-4 inches apart before plants get crowded to keep longest in the leafy stage and keep evenly moist. Sow more seeds every few weeks until summer heat comes on for continuous harvesting, plant again in cool fall weather. Butterflies and pollinators of all kinds loves cilantro blossoms, so let some flower to feed them! The fragrant seeds that follow the flowers are called Coriander; it is the aromatic spice used in baking and savory dishes.
