Dryopteris - filix‑mas

A classic and vigorous male fern, Dryopteris filix‑mas forms robust, arching clumps of glossy, dark-green, bipinnate fronds that reach 24–36 in (60–90 cm) tall and wide. It thrives in part to full shade in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil, tolerating clay and even occasional dry spells once established. This fern is low-maintenance, semi-evergreen in milder climates, and highly deer- and rabbit-resistant—ideal for woodland gardens, shaded borders, and naturalized mass plantings. Awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit, it's a reliable workhorse providing texture and structure in shaded landscapes
