Allium “Moly”, aka the “Golden Onion” or “Lily Leek”, is an easy-to-grow perennial that displays upright clusters of golden starlike florets upon its mid-spring bloom. It differs from other Alliums as it does not display the characteristic globe-shaped blooms of most varieties. Even when not in bloom, this Allium’s gray-green leaves will remain an attractive flower garden compliment. Grows nicely in rich, sandy, well-draining soil of dry to medium moisture and naturalizes easily, coming back year after year. Plant the bulbs in the fall months (Sept-Dec) for a spring (April - May) bloom. A low-maintenance variety requiring little water and exhibiting resistance to drought and deer. Best suited for hardiness zone 3, but can also be grown in zones 4-9. Create a visual impact in your garden by planting these flowers in clusters to create giant swaths of vibrant “Moly” yellow. Note that alliums are toxic if ingested by pets.
