Japanese Tassel Fern - Polystichum polyblepharum

Commonly called Japanese lace fern or tassel fern, this evergreen forms elegant, shuttlecock-like clumps of glossy, lance-shaped fronds up to 24‑36″ (60–90 cm) tall and wide. New fronds unfurl stiffly before arching, with fuzzy stems—some say resembling tassels—adding fine texture to shaded gardens. Thriving in partial to full shade with consistently moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil, it's award-winning (RHS AGM) and prized for year-round forest-like structure. Resistant to deer and rabbits, this low-maintenance beauty suits woodland borders, containers, or as groundcover and erosion-control on shady hillsides.
