Despite Allium âNigrumâ meaning âblack garlicâ in Latin, this variety of flowering onion features creamy-white clusters of delicate florets with green centres. These blooms grow to be 5-6â wide and float 28â above the ground like small clouds of flowers! To be planted in the fall (Sept-Dec), âNigrumâ will bloom in late spring (May - June). A perennial, âNigrumâ naturalizes very easily so you can enjoy its return to your garden year after year! Plant the bulbs at a depth of 6â while spacing each bulb approximately 12â apart. Grows best in full sun and in well-draining soil, and is suitable for hardiness zones 3 to 9. Attracts plenty of butterflies, bees, and other pollinators, but resists deer. Make sure your pets avoid it though as it can be poisonous if eaten. âNigrumâ looks spectacular when planted en masse, spreading to create large drifts of white blossoms.
