Onoclea sensibilisย
A graceful and vigorous sensitive fern, Onoclea sensibilis forms vase-shaped clumps of deeply pinnatifid, bright green sterile fronds reaching 2โ4โฏft (60โ120โฏcm). In mid-summer, shorter fertile fronds appear with beadโlike spore capsules, which dry to brown and persist through winter. Thriving in moist, organically rich soils, especially near streams, ponds, or wet woodlands, it spreads steadily via shallow rhizomes. Deer and rabbit resistant, with no major pest issues, it makes excellent rainโgarden, woodland, or naturalized groundcover plantings.
