Thiessen Saskatoon Berry
The ‘Thiessen’ cultivar of Amelanchier alnifolia (saskatoon berry) offers home gardeners a standout edible shrub with large, richly flavoured purple‑blue berries and excellent productivity. Known for its early bloom, plentiful fruit over a long harvesting period and strong hardiness (Zone 2), Thiessen is as suitable for British Columbia gardens (including Vancouver Island) as it is for prairies. With its attractive white spring flowers and vivid fall foliage, it gives both edible value and landscape appeal. Packaged as a 2.5″ plant size, it’s an ideal size for planting now and growing into a productive shrub. Drip irrigation is preferred to reduce foliar diseases.
