Lovely Blue Colour & Incredible Fragrance

"I'm updating the review I left in 2024 for these Delft Blue Hyacinths. ***Last year I was surprised because these hyacinths were a deeper shade of blue than the pictures. This year, I found out that's because this variety develops a more intense (almost royal) blue when it's grown outside or if the bulbs are forced in full sunlight (eg my winterized sunroom). *** This spring I also forced some of these Delft Blue hyacinths in my living room (and some in the much brighter sunroom, too). The ones that were forced in lower light conditions are indeed a much softer, almost Wedgewood blue. The same variety grown in the sunroom is a deeper blue. And the ones that grew outside in the garden, later in spring, were the deepest blue of all. But the incomparable, wonderful fragrance of this variety is the same, no matter where they're grown."

Delft Blue Hyacinths were Stunning this Spring!

"I bought 48 Delft Blue Hyacinths last fall & they were all top size bulbs. Every bulb was a 17+ cm jumbo bulb (as advertised) & every one produced an absolutely huge flower spike (a few of them also produced one or two (little) secondary spikes, which bloomed about a week later). I planted most of them outside but I also forced 8 indoors (chilled in the fridge until Christmas & then planted in flower pots). Both the indoor & outdoor Delft Blues performed beautifully. My only disappointment is that they aren't soft blue. Delft Blue Hyacinths are supposed to be soft/medium "Wedgwood" blue. Instead, these turned out a deeper, almost violet blue (the proper "tone" of blue but darker than expected.) NB. I searched the internet & found pics of "Delft Blue" that are darker than the usual "Wedgwood" shade, so maybe there are two strains of "Delft Blue"?? (Or maybe the grower substituted a similar variety???) Anyhow, they're absolutely stunning & I've ordered more for next year. I'm assuming this year's will bloom again, next spring. I'm near Lindsay, Ontario & hyacinths usually rebloom around here. The leaves are just dying down & still look healthy (wilting but no sign of disease) so I'm hoping for the best. I'll write another review next year & update about how the "fall 23" ones perform in their 2nd year."
