Andropogon – Red October

A dramatic warm-season native grass, ‘Red October’ Big Bluestem (Andropogon gerardii ‘Red October’ PP26283) features bold seasonal color changes and tall, upright form. In spring, the foliage emerges blue-green tinged with red; through the summer it deepens in tone, and after frost it transforms into brilliant scarlet red. In late summer, striking turkey-foot shaped, burgundy-inflorescences rise above the foliage and persist into winter as architectural interest. This cultivar offers strong vertical impact, winter presence, and low-maintenance appeal in prairie-style gardens and mixed borders.

  • 1 - 2.5" Plug
  • Blue-green foliage shifting to vivid red
  • Turkey-foot seed heads in burgundy
  • Reliable, upright clumping habit
  • Excellent winter silhouette
