Glycyrrhiza glabra
Native to the Mediterranean and SE Asia, this herbaceous perennial is the common sweet variety used in the making of candy, liquor, etc. Scarify seed and sow in warm, fast-draining soil. Plant prefers full sun and tolerates a wide variety of soil conditions. Nitrogen fixer. Harvest 3 year old roots in Autumn. Medicinally used for arthritis, chronic fatigue, adrenal exhaustion, and gastric ulcers.
