Apium graveolens
Variety originated in Greece
For the discerning cook, Amsterdam Leaf Celery seeds offer a more flavourful alternative to traditional celery. These attractive, compact plants feature highly aromatic and stronger-tasting leaves, with small hollow stems. A versatile culinary herb, it is perfect for flavouring soups, stews, and slow-cooking dishes, as well as for use as a fresh garnish. A fantastic choice for a kitchen container garden.
What you need to know to Plant & Grow:
Amsterdam Leaf Celery prefers cool weather and consistent moisture.
Planting: Sow seeds indoors in a sterile growing medium 4-6 weeks before your last frost date, or sow directly outdoors in mid-May as long as the weather is cool (10-15°C). Sow seeds 6 mm deep and 2.5 cm apart.
Care: Once established, thin plants to a final spacing of 20 cm, with 50 cm between rows. Keep the soil evenly watered and provide some afternoon shade in hot summer areas. Leaves can be used both fresh and dried to add their distinct flavour to your dishes.
