Adder's Fern - Polypodium vulgare
Adder’s Fern (Polypodium vulgare), also known as Common Polypody, is a hardy evergreen fern with leathery, lance-shaped dark green fronds divided into attractive rounded segments. Growing from creeping rhizomes, it gradually forms a spreading mat that provides year-round texture without becoming overly aggressive. This adaptable fern is ideal for rock gardens, woodland settings, slopes, walls, and beneath shrubs, thriving in partial shade while tolerating surprisingly dry conditions once established. Reaching about 30 cm (12 in.) tall, it is an easy-care choice for adding lush foliage to challenging garden spaces.
