“Christophii Tops” (also known as Star of Persia) is a striking variety of allium with large globe-shaped heads of many star-shaped flowers. Its petals shine with a silvery-purple hue. This elegant perennial naturalizes easily and is deer-resistant. It is a fantastic choice for sunny borders, and works well when planted in drifts with ornamental grasses and other alliums. “Christophii Tops” can grow to a height of 14 inches with blooms reaching a diameter of 8 inches. Plant in the fall, between September and December, for a June or July blossom. When planting the bulbs place them at a depth of 4 inches while leaving about 4 inches between each bulb. Prefers full to almost-full sun exposure and grows best in hardiness zone 4. Note that alliums are poisonous if eaten by most pets. A bee, butterfly, and beneficial insect attractor, allium “Christophii Tops” should be the first choice for any flower gardener!
