Allium “Red Giant” is an unusual but spectacular variety of allium with a single huge scarlet-purple flower head rising above multiple large green leaves. Sure to be a talking point during any garden tour or event! Its fragrant bloom grows to a height of 10” above the ground and is sure to attract many butterflies, bees, and other beneficial pollinators. Prefers moderate to dry soil and can be planted in USDA hardiness zones 4 through 9. Plant during the fall months (Sept-Dec) for the late spring (May - June) appearance of “Red Giant’s” stunning blossoms. Plant the bulbs at a depth of 6”, leaving approximately 12” between each individual bulb. Note that alliums are poisonous if ingested by pets. Deer-resistant and easy to grow, Allium “Red Giant” looks great in a container or as a feature in garden borders.
