Allium – schoenoprasum

Allium schoenoprasum, commonly known as chives, is a clump-forming perennial valued for its slender, hollow green leaves and soft, globe-shaped blooms of pale purple. The grass-like foliage releases a gentle onion aroma when cut, making it a popular culinary herb. In late spring to early summer, spherical umbels of star-shaped flowers rise on leafless stalks above the foliage, attracting bees and other pollinators. Because it is both ornamental and edible, this plant fits beautifully at the border of a herb garden, in containers, or incorporated into mixed perennial beds.

  • 1 - 2.5" Plug
  • Hollow tubular leaves
  • Mild onion scent
  • Pale purple globe blooms
