Andropogon gerardii - Blackhawks

A bold and striking cultivar of Big Bluestem, Andropogon gerardii ‘Blackhawks’ forms an upright clump of blue-green foliage that transitions to purple in summer and deepens to near black by fall. In late summer, it bears distinctive purplish-red, turkey-foot-like flower spikes that add dramatic winter interest and architectural structure. This native North American prairie grass reaches 120–150 cm (4–5 ft) tall and 60 cm (2 ft) wide, thriving in zones 3–9 with full sun and dry to medium, well-drained soils. Deer-resistant, drought-tolerant, and low-maintenance, it’s perfect for mass plantings, screens, erosion control, and wildlife-friendly natural landscapes
