Actaea simplex - Hillside Black Beauty

Graceful clumps of lacy purple-black foliage create bold contrast in shaded garden areas, topped in late summer to early fall by arching wands of fragrant, pale pink-to-creamy-white bottlebrush flowers. ‘Hillside Black Beauty’ reaches up to 150 cm (5 ft) tall with a spread of about 180 cm (6 ft), making it an impressive focal or background plant in woodland and shade borders. It thrives in moist, humus-rich, well‑drained soil, tolerates part sun to full shade, and benefits from protection in windy sites. Exceptionally deer- and rabbit-resistant, it also draws bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and birds—while remaining low-maintenance.
