Caltha palustris - Plena

A charming wetland perennial, ‘Plena’ is beloved for its fully double, button-like golden-yellow flowers resembling buttercups, blooming profusely in early to mid-spring. Glossy, rounded dark green leaves form a tidy mound and are tolerant of clay and boggy conditions—ideal for pond edges, rain gardens, and moist border plantings. Mature plants typically reach 6–12″ (15–30 cm) tall and 12–18″ (30–45 cm) wide within a season, eventually spreading into attractive clumps via creeping rhizomes. Cold-hardy, low-maintenance, and deer resistant, this cultivar thrives in rich, consistently wet soil under full sun to part shade.
