Polystichum acrostichoides - Christmas Fern

Commonly known as Christmas fern, Polystichum acrostichoides is a robust, native evergreen fern prized for its leathery, lance-shaped fronds that provide reliable winter interest in shaded woodland gardens. Growing in fountain-like clumps up to 24″ tall and wide, its dark green, pinnate fronds are named for their early holiday-season appearance. This low-maintenance perennial is ideal for erosion control on slopes, thriving in zones 3–9 with full to partial shade and average to moist, well-drained soil. It's resistant to deer and rabbits, tolerant of dry shade, and perfect for naturalized plantings, woodland paths, or shady borders.
