Gardener's Notes: Plants thrive in cool weather. In early spring, as soon as the ground can be worked, sow seeds 2 inches apart into rich, fertile, well-drained soil. When several inches tall, thin or transplant seedlings 8 inches apart so plants have room to mature. Keep well weeded and watered. Fertilize monthly with a high nitrogen fertilizer. Harvest when heads are plump and well filled out. Sow again in late summer for fast growing fall crop.
