Gardener's Notes: Peas are a cool-season crop. Plant seeds directly outdoors in early spring in fertile, well-drained soil as soon as soil can be worked. Sow seeds 1 inch deep and 2 inches apart. Provide a 5 ft. tall, well anchored trellis for vines to climb. Harvest when pods are 4 inches long and flat, before the seeds inside develop. In mild climates, plant in fall and winter.
