Gardener's Notes: Squash is a warm-season crop. Sow directly in the garden in late spring or early summer when night temperatures stay above 50F (10C). Before planting, work well-rotted compost or a slow-release fertilizer into the soil at label rate. Plant 1 seed every 6 inches. Thin seedlings to 1 plant every 2 feet. For best flavor, pick when 2-3 inches across. Harvest often to keep plants producing through the season.
